Mural that i'm working on with Pilsen Youth gets vandalize for the second time.

I've been leading this mural project for the past month and I half and this is the second time it get graffiti vandalize but this time they are saying "Mexicans are racist" and that the mural its all "lies" Just sharing with you some images of the damage. Of course it will be repaired as manny times as possible.

The Declaration of Immigration mural class will partner young people with a teaching artist Salvador Jiménez to conceptualize and create a 2 story high x 30ft wide mural on the Southwest exterior wall of the Yollocalli Arts Reach/Radio Arte shared building.

The mural will be a visual dedication to all immigrants and allies who have marched hundreds of thousands of miles to advocate for fair legislation for immigrants and who have stood strong in the face of anti-immigrant rhetoric. Declaration of Immigration will look at some of the historic and current issues affecting immigrant communities and serve as a reminder that the United States of America was founded on emigration and settlement.

Nativist? Not sure that explains the response, who knows why someone would "generalize" a whole group and spray their first expression rights on someone else's wall. As a subject of racially insulting comments spewed at me from folks of Mexican descent in Pilsen I cannot say I don't understand it. Uneducated people have been doing that for eons. The interesting thing to me is that others have not only not felt that way, as have I, but are not wise enough to keep their thoughts to themselves. I would say "nationalistic" would be a better word to describe the "attitude" often given off in Pilsen by those of Mexican descent. I wouldn't say the "mural" was defaced, just reacted to, as unlike most murals this was a political statement with very Latin American centricity and hardly embracing all the immigrants of the United States who struggle to come legally. I support that at a much higher quota than currently exists but still think those who come without proper documentation should leave. Human beings may not be "illegal" per se but immigrating without the proper documentation is and should remain so.
